Roof grants in Brussels: what to know before applying
If you live in the Brussels-Capital Region and are considering roof work, there is financial support you may be entitled to. We explain roughly how it works, and above all where to find the up-to-date information.
These grants mainly concern roof insulation, not just any covering work. Important to know before getting your hopes up: the conditions and amounts change, and the official site is the authority, not us.
The Renolution grants: what are they exactly?
Renolution is the Brussels-Capital Region programme that groups the support for energy renovation of homes. It replaces and simplifies the old grant systems. Concretely: if you insulate your roof (from the inside or the outside), you can apply for a grant from Brussels Environment.
The principle is simple: you have the work done by a registered contractor, you keep your invoices, and you file your application within the deadlines. The amount depends on your situation (income, type of home, work done). The precise conditions, amounts and forms are on the official Renolution site, and they change regularly.

Which roof works are covered?
The Renolution grants mainly cover thermal insulation work:
- Internal roof insulation (under the attic or between the rafters)
- External roof insulation (sarking)
- Flat roof insulation
Repair work, replacing tiles or slates, or renovating the structure are generally not covered. To learn more about what we can do, see our roof insulation page.
Our role: point you in the right direction, not manage your file
Let's be clear: we're roofers, not grant-file administrators. What we can do is explain which works are eligible, confirm the technical characteristics the grant requires (insulation thickness, R-value, etc.), and issue a compliant invoice.
But you file your own application, or your architect does if you have one. We can point you in the right direction and answer your technical questions, but we don't handle the paperwork for you.
Frequently asked questions about roof grants in Brussels
Do the grants also cover roof replacement?
No, as a rule. The Renolution grants target energy performance: they aim at insulation, not covering renewal. If you need to replace slates or redo a damaged roof, that work isn't grant-eligible; you can however combine a covering renovation with insulation and claim the grant for the insulation part.
Should I do the work first or apply for the grant first?
It depends on the type of grant. Some Renolution grants are filed after the work, others may require a prior step. Check the Renolution site for the exact procedure for your situation: the rules change, and we'd rather send you to the right source than give you information that may be out of date.
Does my roofer have to be registered for me to get the grant?
Yes, in principle the contractor must be registered. Before ordering your work, check on the Renolution site what conditions the contractor must meet. On our side, we can confirm our status at that point.
We live in Auderghem: do we get the same grants as the rest of Brussels?
Yes. Auderghem is part of the Brussels-Capital Region, so the Renolution programme applies the same way as in the other Brussels communes.
